WHAT IS DELTA UPSILON?
We're glad you asked. To each brother Delta Upsilon means something different, but one thing we all share is a brotherhood. A brotherhood isn't something that is easy to explain, but in a nutshell it is a special bond that you share with a great group of guys. Playing intramural sports, participating in Winter Carnival, and doing community service only scratches the surface of all the great times we have together.
HOW MUCH DOES DELTA UPSILON COST?
As with every organization, Delta Upsilon does require membership dues. While the amount may vary semester to semester, dues average about $375 a semester. All of the money collected goes towards funding the operation on our Chapter including: international fees, insurance, supplies for events, and maintaining our Chapter house. Absolutely no money collected goes towards the purchase of alcohol or unnecessary items. Our goal is to never raise dues and only lower them.
WHAT MAKES DELTA UPSILON DIFFERENT?
Since our founding, we have prided ourselves in being the only non-secret and non-hazing fraternity on campus. To many of the brothers, this is why Delta Upsilon is special to them. Being a non-secret organization simply means that we are able to share all aspects, including the rituals, of our Fraternity with anyone that wishes to learn about them. By being non-secret, we open ourselves for public scrutiny so that we may be judged by the standards of everyone, rather than only our own. Non-hazing means that we will never put you in a situation where you feel uncomfortable, are in any sort of danger, or where you feel pressured to do something. This has been our stance since our founding, and we take it very seriously.
WHAT DOES DELTA UPSILON DO?
When we're not studying hard or having a great time together, we like to give back to the community through volunteering and philanthropy events. Each year in the United States alone, Greek organizations as a whole raise over $7 million for various causes and charities and give over 10 million hours volunteering for the community. We are no strangers to giving back and are proud to say we contribute to these large numbers. Check out our Philanthropy page to see more specifics of what we do to give back.
WHAT IS JOINING DELTA UPSILON LIKE?
Worried about some of the horror stories you've heard about what joining a Fraternity is like? Worry no more! Since Delta Upsilon is non-secret we can share it with you right now. Being non-hazing, we will never force you to do something or put you in an uncomfortable situation. Our Chapter's associate member process is meant to teach you the history and values of Delta Upsilon, familiarize yourself with Greek Life at Michigan Tech, and get to know all of the brothers. If you were to join our Chapter, you would attend weekly meeting with your fellow associates to learn about the Fraternity and complete team building exercises. You would also be assigned a house project to complete with your pledge class over the semester. We would also have you and you pledge class plan four events that promote our founding principles. Other than that, you will get to meet all of the active brothers and hang out with us!
